Dad's Funeral Service

1 minute read time.

Just had an amazingly challenging day and one which I feel remarkably centred at the end of...

Started this morning with buying clothes for the funeral - Dad specifically said no 'black' .... strange when trying on clothes and seeing the outfit you will wear to say goodbye to your dad.

Then met florist who is doing the flowers for dad - very specific request! Dad was an informal 'no shirt and tie' type of man so we chose as a family a lovely loose green, blue and white affair for the coffin, when we said not too neat and more loose the florist found something just right for us, we opted for delphiniums as these are lovely... with white flowers

Then the Reverend arrived to discuss the service, he was a lovely man who found it easy to talk and get us talking about Dad. We recalled some of our memories and provided the facts that he needed. Lots of laughter and the realisation that Dad was not only loved, but loved in equal amounts each and every one of his family...

So I came home to produce the order of service on my computer using some images special to us all and some words we hope will capture Dad to those who are present on Thursday.

We choce the 'Fisher of Men' reading suggested via this site as we felt it summed up Dad really well...

So whilst a tough day a peaceful one... feeling more human today and less empty and cold...

Thank you to everyone for their kind words, support, encouragement and poem suggestions. Dad would have been amazed at all the fuss going into this, and to think of people he hasn't met sending wishes would surely have made him smile...

    Hi Julia,

How wonderful that your Dads funeral will be a celebration of  the man he was and the love between him and his family. Of course there is sadness, but the fact that there is also laughter and the sharing of special memories means so much at this time. I am sure your Dad is smiling down on you all.

             Take care,

              Love and hugs,

                 lizzie xx

Hi Julia, I know how your feeling. I went through all this just a few months ago for my dad. I think the reminising always brings a smile but a tear too. If you need someone to talk to please message me.

    Take care.
