Well where do I start... just before Christmas my Dad starting hospital visits re 'breathlessness and a persistent cough' after many visits these last two months yesterday it was confirmed he has lung cancer. There is also a chance there is some other 'hot spots' from the PET scan to indicate other areas of concern in his chest.
Sunday he is being admitted to hospital for an operation to access these 'other areas' for biopsy - means he will be there overnight and home hopefully Monday or possibly Tuesday... the decision as to what treatment will depend on
Is the cancer localised or has it spread - test on Monday will confirm
If localised two options given - massive dose of radiotherapy or surgery to remove part of lung... both require Dad to be well and strong enough to manage the journey...
If it has spread we have been told surgery not an option anymore and dependant on how far it has spread the type of radiotherapy treatment may vary.
What should we be asking about / for?
We haven't had a 'grade' of cancer given - does this come after this operation and biopsy?
My Dad is and always will be the most amazing man ever... he is the strongest, biggest hearted man I know - he is a tough cookie too and my journey with him will be very different to the one I am having with Matt...
And for some news of Matt, beautiful boy is doing well at college despite time off for treatments... he is back for an appointment on Thursday next week and then another removal session on 21 Feb - this time they are scraping off the BCC's rahter than surgical removal - this is to protect the facial skin integrity and make sure he minimises scarring. He is planning a couple of weeks to recuperate and regain his good looks and has been lovely and offered to spend time with his grandad... the young and old men in my life and their journey I hope that Matt's youth and strength gives Dad the belief that it is worth the effort and he can be strong enough to make the journey...
As for me, I deal with this all as a challenge to me and my belief that there is always a positive in everything that happens it is hard to see how when the ones you love are in the middle of this, and yet there is something somewhere that is good coming from it... only time will lead us to the answer...
I wish you all a lovely weekend and that your fences are still upright and your shed rooves intact... the wind here is challenging both significantly...
Julia xx
