A lazy weekend

2 minute read time.
What a wonderful weekend we have both had. We kept ourselves busy on Saturday a couple of friends and my Dad and his partner came over to help us with odd jobs around the house which we are trying to tick off our lists before we start the chemo/surgery proper. My Dad did a spectacular job with building shelves either side of the chimney breast in the office/spare bedroom, while Rog put up towel rails and clocks and other bits and bobs. We collapsed in front of a West Wing DVD last night and ate butternut squash and sweet potato curry with brown rice (Ainsley Harriott recipe). Today has been a more sedate affair with a lie in (utter luxury) and then a visit from A's ma and sister who stayed for a cup of tea and kitty cuddling before going home. We didn't do terribly much but somehow we both succumbed to a nap this afternoon on the sofa! Work tomorrow is going to be a real shock for me. Luckily A can work from home, and he is under strict instructions not to go too mad over the next week. Hopefully he'll listen! Anyway, he has an appointment with the renal specialist on Wednesday as one of his kidneys appears to be under functioning, and Friday is the big results test when all the histology reports are back and we all sit down to discuss The Plan. I am prepared for it to be a tough day. This afternoon I went through vast reams of my recipe books marking any recipe that conforms to our new eating principles - and am pleasantly surprised by just how many there are! Nigel Slater comes out tops at the moment, with Jamie Oliver a close second. Unfortunately (as I love her recipes) Nigella lags in a lazy last, as I am hard pressed to find anything she suggest cooking that doesn't contain half a pound of butter/lard/cheese/cream/chocolate (delete as applicable) but maybe that's why all her stuff is so delish?! ;-) Tonight's feast will be roasted spiced salmon with roasted butternut squash, sweet potatoes and fresh beetroot with a side of spring greens. Yumm. In other food news, I am still troubled by the outcome of Masterchef. How can cry baby Jane have won? Woudn't have minded which one of the other two. Time for some more recipe book searching I think. Take care all. T x

Hi T, best wishes to you and A for Friday coming.  I have to say your recipes sound delicious.  I agree with the Nigella thing, butter, cream, chocolate etc, yummy! lol.

Glad you had such a good weekend, long may it continue.  Regards, Christine xx

    Wendy was, frankly, robbed.

Love the sound of your recipes: am off to try to find the squash and sweet potato curry one which sounds heavenly.

I hate the dissing of my heroine Nigella, but must grudgingly admit you have a point.  But have you tried her corn-topped chilli con carne with guacamole?  Delicious and not too evil if you discount the cheddar cheese in the topping.

A will obviously be well-fed during chemo.  Science insists that diet has no proven effect on the relative robustness of chemo patients, but I defy anyone to deny how much better we feel when we keep it healthy and balanced.  Hope he doesn't get too affected by steroid hunger (one of the ladies in my chemo suite says she has to take a pile of sandwiches to bed when she's on them because she knows she'll waken up hungry at 3am!  I know what she means...)

Wishing you all the very best with this unsolicited new episode in your life.  And if you want to post any more interesting recipes, you'll have a captive audience here...

    love

Love the Blog Bird!  At least then you don't have to keep repeating yourself and people can easily find out what's going on!  I will see you and Lord A soon :-) xx
