My dear Mum has had c.o.p.d for many years which gives her chest infections at a rate of one a month. They happen so often and usually respond to steroids and antibiotics that we wasnt really concerned when in May 2013 mum got another bad chest.
That was until after a week of treatment Mum was worse than ever. She could hardly breathe and any physical effort made her gasp for air. We begged her to go back to the doctors or even go into hospital but she point blanked refused. Eventually she got so bad we called an ambulance who placed her on a nebuliser, After three lots of nebulised medication was given back to back mums breathing settle down again therefore Mum refused to go to hospital. Later that night my Sister and I had to call the emergency out of hours doctor out. He again gave nebuliser treatments and told us if she gets any worse then call 999.We ended up calling 999 the next day at about 1 o clock in the afternoon.
When we arrived at the hospital we were told Mum was having a c.o.p,d exacerbation. That afternoon there were many blood tests, nebulisers and chest xrays. Mum was told she needed to be admitted for them to keep an eye on her. At 12 midnight Mum was admitted to a respiratory ward, Once settled my Sister and I left, this was about 1 o clock in the morning.
This was on the 20th May 2013.
