I have just lost my wife Sharon to Pancreatic Cancer.

I have  just read "A Scattering" by Christopher Reid that has just (January 2010) won the Costa Book Awards Winner. It is a poem (written in a prose style so "easy" to read) in four parts one written before his wifes death from cancer and three parts after her death in memory of his wife. Each part has individual poems each of which is extremely poignant and relevant to the grief I am currently feeling.

    "Sparse breaths, then none -

    and it was done"

brings back tears and the memory of the moment each time I read it

    Highly recommended

John I am so sorry to read about your loss and send  my sincere best wishes to you for strength and courage at this dreadfully sad time.

Many thanks for the recommendation. I do know of Christopher Reid and have always found comfort in poetry as it seems many other have also, according to my mail box.

I have always written poetry and felt that this would be a good way for me to record this 'journey' so from day one and in diary form as the days go by, I record my feelings. This helps me very much indeed and to my surprise my poems seem to have great appeal to others world-wide who are in a similar postion. Many saying they help them to shed comforting tears. I trust we can be friends and have added your name to my list here. All best wishes.

    Sincerely Susie Hemingway.

    Susie

Thanks for the invite as a friend.

I will have a look at your poems and hope that they will help me come to terms with things and accept that there are others feeling the same as me.

    Thanks again

    John
