Recovery 5 weeks on and found a use for that mask (pic attached)

1 minute read time.

I feel like I've really begun to turn the corner now, and the biggest factor in this is the improvement in my eating.  The steroids have definitely improved my appetite, and I seem to be hungry all the time! I'm also managing to eat a much wider range of foods. I can chew on the side that still has teeth, and my swallowing has improved. Stuff does sometimes get a little wedged, but a discrete coughing it back up and a bit more chewing and a drink of water does the trick.

The left had side of my mouth does seem to still be prone to ulcers, but they are the sort that come and go within a day, not sure if it's certain foods that bring them on.

My taste is pretty good now, although I'm still avoiding salty or spicy foods.

I am going to look into the dry mouth products now, to see if there anything that can help with the overnight dry mouth situation.

I feel like my energy levels have really improved, so then I have a go at doing something, only to realise that I haven't quite got what it takes.

I am going to start going back into work once I've finished the steroids for short periods and see how that impacts my energy levels.

I've stopped using the dermatix gel on my scars at the moment as it didn't seem to be making much difference now. I'm now trying bio oil, which has a lovely smell.

The one thing that gets me down most I think is my voice, and I get quite frustrated by the fact I can't make myself clear, although people tell me it it's better.

I did find a great use for my radiotherapy mask for halloween! I've attached a picture.

Hello DLC ... well that mask certainly made me shiver with the memories, great use of it though ! I'm glad that you are moving forward with eating different things and yes, always have water to hand to help something go down if it gets stuck.

Dry mouth ... I use a mixture of both the Biotene and BioXtra products and always use a gel at night - try different ones and see which suits you the best.

Your voice will slowly improve, it's just practise ... my Consultant told me to read aloud ( when on my own, of course ! ) I find that my pronunciation isn't as good when I'm tired, strange. Don't fret because you are doing just great, take care x
