Today I visited the breast clinic after the team decided they needed to eliminate and tiny chance the the lump had been a secondary to a primary in the breast because if was a similar type to those often found there as primaries. Started out filling in a questionnaire and a form asking if you wanted copies of letters sent to the doctor.
Next saw a doctor for a physical exam. She then decides what checks you need, I was sent for a mammogram. Lots of my friends who have had them always kind of give a non descript answer as to what they are like, which has always led me to assume that they aren't very pleasant and they are hiding this fact. So I went in prepared for it not to be fun. I won't say it's a party but the whole thing was far better than I was expecting. You can recreate the experience at home. Place one breast on the kitchen work top. Take a medium sized sandwich box place it on top of the breast and press down to flatten the breast. Repeat on the other side. Next place one breast against the door, squish it against the door with the sandwich box again, repeat. That was the slightly more "uncomfortable" one, but the whole thing was over quickly and not at all what I had expected.
We were then asked to wait to see the original doctor again for the results, at which point she might advise you have a further procedure, such as a CT scan. For mine she said, everything was completely clear, and my doctor would receive notification and I'd be called back in 3 years time. It makes a change to get everything over and done with in one session. We were there just over an hour.
Friday it's the second monthly check up with my original Consultant. That comes round quick. I've also discovered that my dental insurance covers mouth cancer which I hadn't realised!!!! Don't know if I can claim now or not.
