Day 17

Less than one minute read time.

So had my first outpatient appointment yesterday and it was confirmed that they would like me to have 6 weeks of Radiotherapy. Although my margins were clear apparently it was very close on one side and because of my age they would rather take the belt and braces approach. Apparently it won't be on the neck- just on a small area of my neck. They are also going to send me for a breast check to Just make sure they have covered all bases. The PET/CT didn't show signs of anything else- but again, they just want to be sure.

Apparently it was a stage 1 carcinoma- but now we're back to not being sure what type. I probably don't need any speech therapy because my speech is doing really well, but I do have a lazy corner of the mouth which I need to exercise. Also the numb knee is probably from damage to the femeral Nerve which should come back. I've been given some cream called dermatix. Wondering if anyone has any experience of this?

Hello DLC ... sorry that you will be having radiotherapy, but it's for the best to make sure that any stray cells are destroyed.  If the treatment area is only on a small area of your neck then hopefully you shouldn't have too many problems either. Afraid that I haven't come across a cream called Dermatix, so perhaps you could post in the head / neck group about that one.

So wishing you a continued recovery, look after yourself.
