Was just reminded of this blog today when logging back into the site after quite some time and though I should post another update on the off chance that someone else embarking on this journey has found any part of my ramblings helpful.
it is now 11 years and 2 months since I started this journey.
The genius man at the hospital ( Aaron) did indeed make me a plate with some teeth in it which I’ve been wearing for over a year now. It did take quite a few visits to get it finished, which was held up by a reoccurrence of the infection that flares up in the region of the original site from time to time. Usually something connected to the osteoporosis rumbling on again.
So the teeth are now a perfect fit and do provide support to the front teeth ( think I’ve lost one more since my last post). I’m still not really eating on that side either - all the chewing takes place on the opposite side to the surgery.
I’m still seeing the consult every 6 months to monitor the osteoradionecrosis, which is lurking, but the area is covered with skin and I don’t think there is any exposed bone. I see a private hygienist every 3 months to keep on top of the oral hygiene, but I think the lack of saliva causes bad breath because of the dry mouth. Trying some different mouth washes at the moment.
That’s my update for now. Hope it’s helpful.
