stoma reversal

1 minute read time.

I am currently waiting to receive a date for surgery to reverse the stoma I have had since surgery in Septmeber 2012.  I am very frustrated as I had a phone call 2 weeks ago to tell me I am on the shortlist for surgery.  Foolishly I thought this meant it might be soon - I rang today to see if there was news as I fancy a few days away to be told - oh, I haven't put you on the list yet, May is already full so it will be at least June - I feel gutted.  I can't wait to be rid of this stoma - it seems to affect everything I do - we have no social life because as soon as I eat or drink it starts to be very noisy!!  I know life afterwards won't be perfect but it has to be an improvement on now. I feel as though I can't begin to get on with my life until this is reversed and I feel as though the doctors just don't care - they've dealt with the cancer and I should be grateful instead of saying I wan't rid of the stoma.  Has anyione else experienced this, how long have you had to wait for a reversal?

    Hi Sarah,

Welcome to the Online Community. I'm sorry to hear that you are not getting clear answers about the date of your stoma reversal. It sounds as though you are feeling very frustrated and uncertain.

I'm glad you've found our site, as many of our members find that it helps to have a safe and supportive place to share their feelings. To get started on the site, you may find it helpful to join and post in some groups that are relevant to you. For example, we have a colon and rectum cancer group and a ileostomy and colostomy group.

You can also give our team a call on the free Macmillan Support Line (0808 808 0000, Mon-Fri, 9am-8pm). Our specialist nurses are there to help answer your medical questions, or you can call if you just need to talk.
