I have now survived 13 months since my diagnosis and happily looking forward to Christmas. Whilst most of my metastatic cancer is under control, I have a rather stubborn 5cm tumour on my adrenal gland. I hope to have 5 days of radiotherapy in January to kick its butt! I had a good meeting with my consultant today and am convinced that this is the right way to go. I now have to mentally prepare myself for the sickness and collateral damage that may result from the treatment. There’s a 10% chance that it may not go ahead; I have a DMSA scan on Monday to check that my kidney function is up to scratch as one of them is in the firing line - if they are not good then it’ll be pills for me to avoid losing too much kidney function. My pancreas is also in the firing line and due to the organ’s sensitivity to radiation it is likely that I will become diabetic after the treatment. I am happy just to be alive and have the chance to see my granddaughter grow up a little bit more and will take each day as it comes
