retail therapy...

3 minute read time.
Friday 28th August Well, friend came and we ate in on Thursday - they had the most delicious looking steaks and I didn't, haha. I've gone mostly vegetarian through natural inclination not 'choice'. Funny how we're drawn to different things - I've had a fish in batter phase, a noodle and cashew nut phase, a pasta and tomato phase, a strawberry phase... and at the time, they've all made some kind of sense. At the moment I'm on a fruit phase so, by my reckoning, I get every nutrient I need over the course of the year... So yesterday, I woke up at 8.25 and was out of the door to Middlesbrough at 8.40 to buy hospital stuff (and, to be honest, I just wanted a drive by myself). They were still snoring peacefully - surround sound at the top of the stairs :) and I thought it was the only chance I’d get if they wanted me in on Tuesday… I needed some bottoms and tops and underwear because mine fell victim to a ‘laundry malfunction’ involving a new pair of black, skinny jeans (not mine!) a few weeks ago and are all grey. Nice. I tried to get stuff that makes it easy to get at the hickman line – I don’t know exactly where it’s going to be though so vests, tshirt, buttonup blousy/shirty thing (!) and a cardi top thing cos my dressing gown might be too warm! The M &S changing room mirror was really quite traumatic today, haha – my bathroom mirror looks nothing like that!) Also got some toiletries and some razors for the bottom half of my legs (about the only place the hair didn't fall out of. Typical.) and some mango lip balm – don’t know what it does but it sounded tasty. I was also looking for some sandal / flipflop type things cos my slippers smell(!) but what with it being August an’all there’s no summer shoes to be found… Got back and Doc had rung. They've put it back a week because they can't get me an x-ray this week (bank holiday) so I go in on the morning of Monday 7th September (when the new term starts. How neat. I first met my Consultant on the first day back after xmas...) – still at least my bag is ready! Friend decided to to stay tonight as well so we went to Whitby and yet more fish and chips. It was the most relaxed, friendly, funny afternoon we'd had for ages. Had a walk along the pier but turned back cos the wind really got up and no-one was prepared to dive in for my hair (wusses). Sat on the balcony of The Shambles (if anyone knows whitby, lol) overlooking the harbour. Stopped for a drink on the way home and bumped into another friend (the two 'friends' knew each other but hadn't seen each other for about 10 years!) so a great couple of days... Saturday 29th August Well, I've definitely 'slumped' today - started reading The Kite Runner this morning - very good (loved the film) and nice surprise that it's on kids' A-level syllabus. Friend left at lunchtime. Pottered about on the 'net (but not for long) and started doing the few accounty bits that need updating but couldn't be bothered with it - needed a day away from computer screens I think. Listened to the Boro lose for the first time this season. I will resist the temptation to correlate my treatment with the fortunes of Middlesbrough FC :) Had a very nice baked potato for dinner with salad so have had my 5 portions today! Think I'll go to bed now with my book and BBC's Bleak House on DVD - I like the treatment - sinister in a dreamlike way. I've just been interrupted by interloping cats in the kitchen - we have a couple of kittens who have never dared set foot in the house. (they're all farm cats and live outside). Mum trotted straight back outside but the kittens just scattered , couldn't get there footing on the kitchen floor at first - proper Looney Tunes stuff, haha. One scarpered the right way and out the door, the other went for the living room and just ran round it in a total blind panic at a hundred miles hour before launching itself at the window - face first (ouch)! Then it ran in and out of two vases of flowers and the miraculously-still-alive-poinsettia-from-last-xmas without knocking anything off the window-sill!!! I was handily placed to do I'm not sure what actually - maybe catch a vase?!? No way was I getting within scratching distance, haha. Hope your weekend is full of nice things :) x ps sorry it's so long!
