And so it came to pass that on the thirteenth (!) day they did Let Her Out. And there was much rejoicing in the House (til they realised how much tidying up they thought they had to do…). So I managed to avoid any infections this time though I’m still on aciclovir which I think is a kind of broad spectrum antibiotic, itraconazole (an anti-fungal), nystatin (antifungal mouthwash) and corsodyl (mouthwash). First week out I brought accounts up to date and made the adverts for the monthly music mag that we do (The LiNK) as we were right up against the print deadline. ‘Normally’ I would class both of these jobs as ‘work’ but I actually quite enjoyed doing them this time. More challenging than my hospital puzzle book but not enough to make my brain ache. Not fitting it in during the night after school might have something to do with it mind. It was Joseph, my eldest’s, 19th birthday on the 21st and big brother and his girlfriend had come up from Leeds so we had 2 very nice meals together and they had a couple of good sessions at the pub while I washed up. Such is the Rock‘n’ Roll nature of my life now. I know people always say this but Time really does speed up, lol - 19 years like That! The other thing that happens is that the present pile gets smaller the older they get. This year we paid to have a stereo and a couple of minor bits (bulbs etc) fitted in his car replaced his Converse boots and got him a music voucher for the ipod which Jordan bought him and a copy of Teesside Urban Legends which has some very funny stuff in it. My Mum came up from Wales on the 24th. Spent a nice few days catching up. Took her along the Teesside Riviera delivering magazines in various pubs (well P did, we just went along for the ride). Had a walk along Saltburn Pier which was fresh. On the 26th I had my post-chemo CT scan. Took longer because the nurse couldn’t get the cannula in. Had two goes, one of which did hurt J before sending off for the magical Gary who can “get in anywhere” apparently - and yes he can - managed to get into my wrist first time. It was kind of precariously balanced but did the job of getting the dye in. Caught sight of a monitor towards the end and the point of a mouse was kind of circling something - now I can’t read these things and I know that it’d be some kind of miracle for there to be an empty space where a tumour once lived. I know this in my head but…still put a bit of a downer on my mood though no-one would’ve known. I also caught a cold from who knows where - we eliminated everyone from our enquiries and I hadn’t been anywhere…so an antsy 48 hours or so of checking temperatures and swine flu websites. Runny nose, sneezing and the odd cough but no aches or temp so that was alright. However, it meant we missed a friend’s graduation dinner and hotel stay on the friday, dammit!! The boys went up though and enjoyed it. Mum had booked her ticket home for the Friday because of it so waved her off a day early. On Saturday, I went for my flu and swine flu jabs. Doc advised Pete and J & J to get swine flu jabs as well. Pete got his there and then and the boys will come with me on the 21st dec when I get my second one. No side effects other than a red lump where it went in. Watched the lads win their football match on the way home - Joseph got man of the match J . They all went off to play a gig on the night. I usually enjoy the solitude but I was just angry at not being able to go out ‘just in case’ - sometimes it’s like “FFS!!!” Sunday was a write-off cos I was still grumpy and bored and it was p***ing down (nothing to do with scan results on Tuesday then, oh no J ). Today we got up to a steady trickle of water coming from under the coal fire - seems that the boiler above has decided ot corrode now so my carpet is wet through. God knows when a) the landlord will arrange for someone to come and b) how long the fireplace will be out of commission. Looks like every day will be a duvet day for a while, haha. And so to tomorrow. Results Day. My Birthday. I will be 42 which as every Douglas Adams fan knows is the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe and Everything. So that's good then.
nite nite love k xx
