5 weeks post-op and still getting used to things :(

Less than one minute read time.

It's been so lovely, hot and sunny and fine to sit in the garden wearing my vesty top not worrying that I've only got one boob. When it came time to get changed to go out I caught a glimpse in the mirror and in a surreal moment couldn't work out what was wrong. Then it dawned on me and suddenly no clothes looked or felt right and knowing I was going to be out til late evening, i burst into tears.

I went to help my daughter get ready for her prom night , once I saw her all dressed up I calmed down. She looked gorgeous-not that I'm biased!  It was a sight for sore eyes seeing all the colours of the dresses and all the girls looking so pretty  in the evening sun. Watching them smiling and laughing enjoying their evening, suddenly everything seemed alright again.

I suppose it takes time to get used to the change in your appearance after mastectomy, roll on reconstruction in the spring!

    Hi Soozyboo

I had a right mastectomy in March and I know you may think its ok for me to say but it does get easier but we all have those moments when it hits us. I have finally got my prosthesis, which way back when was my nightmare as I thought it would be just awful and didn't want one at all because I thought it represented the illness if that makes any sense, my how things change, I'm like a dog with two tails, can now wear t-shirts etc.

Like you am looking forward to re-construction, not discussed yet.

My daughter has her Prom next year, am sure it will be fun for her and a proud time for me, shall try not to cry too much!

Off to M&S tomorrow for new bras, any excuse to treat myself.

Hope everything seems brighter now, am sure it does and hope all goes well for you in the future.

    Take care

    Maxine
