Hi new to bloging. Just like to say i too got a private email from mirbel who said she d read my profile so is she a member? Anyway i'm now 8 weeks post totaL hysterectomy awaiting radiotherapy and i'm a bit worried because its been delayed due to a possible wound infection, three lots of antibiotics there not sure whats causing inflamation around wound and the half litre of fluid shown up on ultrasound in the same area. Has anybody been in a simlar state.

    Hi Ang

Yes - I was in a similar position as I too had a wound infection following my own operation for ovarian cancer.  Like you, I had three lots of antibiotics and went back into hospital twice for the wound to be reopened and drained.  It did eventually clear up and although I was really worried about the start of my chemo being delayed until 3 months after the operation, my cancer didn't spread any further - and I am sure that I coped a lot better with the side effects of chemo because I had had time to recover completely from the operation.  I do hope that your infection clears up soon and that you can continue your treatment as planned.

Thanks Kate.  Hopefully they will find out soon what the fluid is. They say its not an abscess and its not a blood clot and they could only draw off 100ml, so thats off to the laboratory. They don 't want to give me a general anaes. unless they have to because i have severe sleep apnea. I had my hysterectomy via an epedural and was awake throughout, don't want to anythink like that again.  Did they open your wound under a local anaes and was it an abscess they drained.  I'm down for radiotherapy. They said my ovaries were clear of cancer and the cancer was contained although it was an aggresive stage 3. No obvious sign out side womb, but resent ct scan and ultrasounds are being checked. Just want to get on top of this and get back to work.

Hi kate - went to hospital today they told me no infection found in fluid and there s no plan to drain, so i can start my radiotherapy soon, they seemed very interested in my liver and i've had a micro bubble ultrasound in the area. They say its good no infection, but are not clear on were all this fluid comes from and why the wound still looks inflamed. Mind working overtime. Now waiting for hospital to send for me, guess i'll have to write questions down, my mind goes blank and i forget to question things till i'm on my way home.
