Less than one minute read time.

Well in hospital again last sunday, constant sickness the doctor keeps saying its constipation. Tried everything and it is now 12 weeks since radiotherapy, He has been losing weight every week  and is now very thin. They kept him in untill wed to try and clear it, he is now home but still no appitite. Dont really know what to do next, it is pointless that they keep saying eat lots of fibre when he can only manage a small bowl of soup! I feel there most be something else going on, ant advice?

Hi - This may seem an obvious question but is he taking any anti-sickness medication and/or pain meds? I am almost 12 weeks post radiation for nasal cancer and still suffering from nausea but not actually being sick. I am managing to eat but little and often, I have no appetite and have to force myself to eat other than porridge on a morning after that I go downhill.

I posted a week or so ago about continuing nausea after radiotherapy and got some good advice back one of which was to change my anti sickness tablets - I have only been on them a couple of days but touch wood they seem to be working for me.

Having said that nausea and vomiting are totally different but I believe that an empty stomach can cause vomiting so it can be a viscious circle. I have laid in bed many nights knowing it would be far easier to be sick rather than sit up and tolerate this nausea, but then I think of all the effort I have put in that day to get food and water down and if I am sick the next day will be worse. My oncologist has a 10% tolerance for weight loss from start of treatment to end - over that and they want to tube feed or a tube in tummy - I do not want that so that motivates me to battle each day to keep eating.

Has he got some kind of intervention i.e. nasal tube, etc - cannot believe the hospital keep sending him home with continued weight loss.

    Hope things get better

    Jayne

    Hi Jayne

Have you got a blender if you have you can make him tasty drinks in that I have just made a banana shake and he liked it all I did was peel two bananas cut them into small pieces (not to small) covered them with milk and two scoops of vanilla ice cream and blended them it was really nice you can make quite a large number of drinks in a blender what ever your husband likes and soups they taste nicer than the ones you can buy.  Dont ask him though if he feels like something like that because he will say no just make it and ask him to try it.

    Hope this helps

    Take care

    Hi

Again Jayne bananas give you energy and you can make him something that will help his constipation he will feel awful if he is constipated look on the internet for constipation and it will tell you what fruit and veg etc what is good for it then you can put some in a milk shake also I did not get one of those very expensive blenders it as a glass jug because I think they are easy to keep properly clean.

    Good luck
