hi new to site

Less than one minute read time.
hi i'm new to site. i'm a 42 year old single mum and was diagnosed with bowel cancer with secondary liver cancer in june last year. i had 4 cycles of chemotherpy and i'm in remission. which is good news however emotionally i'm all over the place and feel very lonely at times. my girls are great and i keep it together for them. i've been reading your posts which has helped me get through christmas. l'm now planning to have a holiday in florida while i'm well, however trying to get travel insurance is proving difficult. i phoned all the companys on the web site but they cant insure the cancer. has anyone had the same problem and how did you to overcome this.

    Hi Sha,

Try MIA online or Club Direct, both are good and reasonable with cancer sufferers, wishing you continued good health. Helen xx

Hello Sha, welcome to the 'club'. I'm sorry to read about your loneliness while going through this 'journey' but you have found the right place to be. There will always be someone to 'listen' and support you and you can let off steam whenever you feel the need.  It is very hard being a parent and holding it all together for the children. It will become such a strain so please come on here as often as you want.

The holiday sounds a great idea so good luck with the insurance!

    Take care

I only found this site a couple of weeks ago too, and I already wonder what I did without it, I've finished all my treatment now, and I can't help but wonder how much easier life would be if I'd have known about all the wonderful people on here. So keep your chin up and use this site when ever your feeling low, or just fancy a chat.

I can't get insurance to cover the cancer either, but because I'm in remission, I don't see it as a problem.  I wouldn't be away for long, and Cancer is hardly ever acute.  If you have a word with your GP, he might be able to reassure you.  If you are ill with anything else, you would be covered anyway.   You don't have to book too far ahead, so cancellation isn't a problem either.  I have annual travel insurance with my enhanced bank account.  (Lloyds Gold account, it's the account that's enhanced, not my balance).  I think you have to pay extra to a Barclays additions account to get the travel insurance.

Go and enjoy your holiday.  It is worrying after you have had the op and the chemo, because of the odd twinges, and suddenly you aren't the centre of attention any more.  I'm not saying you're spoilt, any more than anyone else, but sometimes when the sun goes in, you can't see for a bit.

You get twinges, in places where you don't have places any more.  However hard you try to be calm, it is worrying.  Your nerve endings in the brain still think those places are there, and try to fill in the gaps I think.  Just a hypothesis.

    I hope this helps.
