Feels Like Starting Over

Less than one minute read time.

55 year old male. Diagnosed with bladder cancer  G3 T1 in June 2008. Various cystoscopy's & TURBT between June & September 08.

6 initial instilations of BCG Oct / Nov 2008. Followup Cystoscopy Feb 09 showed only a very small growth.

3 maintenance instilations of BCG in May 09. Followup Cystoscopy Aug 09 showed no further growth and no further malignancy. (Happy Days)

3 maintenance instilations of BCG in Nov 09. Followup Cystoscopy Feb 10 cancer present again G3 T2. (not so happy days).

Further CT scan, Cystoscopy & Biopsy in March 10 - Now referred to The Christie Manchetser. Met with the Doctor 31/3/10,  2 Options, Bladder removal or Radiotherapy. I made the obvious choice. Had my radiotherapy planning assessment (21/4/10) and then started the treatment (29/4/10) 20 sessions.

All went well with RT, had  2 review cyctoscopy's since (Sept 10 & Jan 11). All OK

Had a recent sigmoidoscopy for other reasons. The consultant referred me back to urologist & oncologist. Bottom line is - secondary bladder C in lymph nodes.

So Chemo GemCis to start ASAP.  Feels Like Starting Over!!

Anyone had Gem Cis?

19/4/11 - Appointment confirmed for Kidney Function Test for tomorrow (20/4/11) Looks like things are moving very quickly

My hubby , Mike On The Bike, (who used to be on this site) had Gem + Cis back in Nov 2008 - Mar 2009.  Prior to that he was terminal as inoperable.  Best thing thy did for him.  Symptoms all but disappeared after 2 months. He had a RC in March 2009 and is now in the best shape he's been in years.  Rides his motorbike all over the place, really enjoys his 911 and is winning golf tournaments regularly.  He took loads of exercise before the chemo and OP to build up his strength.  Onco seemed to think that really helped.

Hope your experience is as good if not better.
