secondary bone cancer.

1 minute read time.

About 3 week ago my dad was diagnosed with secondary bone cancer. he was struggling around the house with me and my sisters and collapsed and was admitted to hospital

next morning as he was carefully trying to get out of bed to sit in him in a chair his   leg just whent he had back op to pin the bones  cut a long story short the surgeon could see that there was something very wrong, anyway after further C.T scans, blood tests etc the consultant told dad my sistes and me  and I that she has secondary bone cancer in her lower back, pelvis, hip and leg. primary lung cancer  was the course  dads secondarily  cancer is very aggressive  type, she thought dads situation was 'dire'. We are devastated, dadis in hospital , the consultant has said that things could happen quickly.dad had a full MRI  bone scan  today, now my sistes and I are thinking that they won't send him for radiotherapy because it has gone too far and just maintain his pain relief with medication. The hospital that he would go to for radiotherapy is an hour away and has been admiterd , he is already in a lot of pain. I can not beleive what's happened, I am so upset and scared.__________________

Big hugs to you.  Sounds very familiar.  Once lung cancer spreads into the bones it is an incurable situation and sadly very painful one too.  They probably will do radiotherapy right up until the end, they did with my dad.  Dad had a spinal tumor that ended up compressing his spinal cord causing paralysis and they did radiotherapy on him.  Pain relief is totally important now, they need to keep on top of it to keep him comfortable.  I'm so sorry you're going through this, cancer is horrible I knew that but I had no idea just how cruel it is.

    Thinking of you x

Hi there i am so sorry to hear both your stories it looks like they were a while ago so i hope both your dads got better and are comfortable?? Im trying to talk to people in a similar situation as believe it or not i have three sisters but we stupidly choose not to talk to each other about how we are feeling about our mum. My mum had breast cancer 4 years ago it had spread a tiny amount to the lymph node but they operated and removed the lump in the breast and also the lymph nodes and did chemo and she was all clear until recently they found it has come back. So at the moment she is going through very gentle chemotherapy again as its just a couple of spots on the top of the spine. It was in the lymph nodes in the chest but they are now clear so treatment has gone really well. My mum is in no pain attal and in a very comfortable state in fact i find it hard to believe she is ill she has no back pain or anything. They have told us it cannot be cured which i find very difficult to accept. I really hope things have improved for you both since x x
