Hi to all,
And thanks to all, I've read a few bogs on your various situations and they have given me some comfort, so thanks everyone xxx
I am one of those women who didnt go back after an abnormal smear result which was 10- 12 years ago, it was only down to my GP's nurse who was checking my wounds after a totaly seperate operation who told me I was well overdue a smear test, bless her she offered to do it there and then, I knew if I had to make an appointment I would probably fail to appear yet again. True to her word the results appeared on my door step 2 weeks later to the day. I had to contact the GP surger to discuss the results. I phoned and spoke to the nurse who told me she wanted to discuss the abnormal results face to face, so I went in on the monday, she told me i have invasive cells, within a week I was at the hospital having a colposcopy. The leaflet told me it would take 10-15 mins so even though I was absolutly terrified I decided it had to be done. I went and before anything happened I asked the Dr what exactly I had. She told me the results of the smear showed invasive cells and that once she had had a look she would be able to tell me more and decide on what treatment if any was required. Off we go............The Dr told me that I had alot of invasive cells and that she would perform a loop excision if I wanted there and then, I told her to do what she had to do and in all honesty after two injections she did her stuff. Over an hour and a half later it was all over (she did say I was bleeding alot and that she had to be sure it was stopped before the procceedure was over. Cant knock her for that. I asked her if I had cancer and she told me that we would have to wait for the results of the biopsy (I accept that, dont wont to be told I have it when I dont and visa versa). My attitude is that was the worst thing to have done(loop excertion) as anything else would be done while I was under General anesthetic. It didnt hurt at all and my side affects have been minimal. The Dr told me she would sent the results as urgent and when I said is that normal both Dr and nurse said yes but sorry they were not convincing. I asked lots of questions as I had done a bit of research before I went, in all fairness they had confirmed what I thought I knew, which I feel on the grand scale of things wasnt that much. I asked if it could be cancer and the nurse gave me that knowing look and nodded but both were adament and said we have to wait. I asked about the biospy and it was fully explained and looking at the diagrams I have seen it looked more like a cone biopsy than a loop excision(found out after I got home) only due to the ammount taken (Dr'd diagram) Needless to say I am now a bit worried that I have cancer due to the fact everything has been done so quick, I know they dont mess arround with these things but even so. Its the not knowing thats doing my head in, I have told a few friends whats going on and they have been great, we have talked about all the what if's, but I havent told my family or work yet.
I know we are all different and I havent even been diagnosed yet but if anyone has been through the same as me, please let me know how you got on and any tips for dealing with the wait would be greatly appreciated.
I have searched high and low and found nothing that is similar to my experience, sorry its a bit long winded......xx
cheers Sarah
