Sand's charity skydive!

2 minute read time.

My lovely husband of 25 years,Berni, was diagnosed out of the blue on 26th november 2011, with a brain tumour. From that day all our lives have been devastated. After a biopsy we were told the awful news that he had a grade 4 glioblastoma, which is the most aggressive and they couldn't operate because of its position. When they told us it was terminal our hearts were broken. Bern is the love of my life and dad to our three teenage sons. After enduring 6 weeks of chemo and radiotherapy ( which had no effect whatsoever on the tumour ) my husband lost his life on 31st march this year, 2012, after just four months. We love and miss him so much.

It was whilst looking on the website of Brain tumout UK for information, I came across a video of a young girl doing a skydive in memory of someone. It was so moving, that I decided there and then to do the same for Berni. Quite simply my husband and my love for him was my inspiration.

Sunday 10th June was the day of the dive and family and friends came to support me. I can honestly say i was not scared! Thats hard to believe i know but it's amazing what you can do when your mind is set on it. My sister was more afraid than me and my sons were wishing they were doing it. I took some of Bern's ashes up with me but I felt he was beside me anyway.

Half an hour 'training' was what was involved ( it was a tandem skydive by the way, I'm not that mad!) Basically I was told to cross my arms over my chest and tuck my legs under the body of the plane before exiting! So you dont actually jump out more like sit on the edge dangling your legs before rolling out!! OMG!!!

Well what can I say apart from it was AMAZING! Freefalling is weird because we did a sommersault then it just takes your breath away! Literally because you fall at 120 miles an hour and you can hardly get your breath! Then when the chute opens its so, so quiet and the view is fantastic! Apparently i am a natural because our landing was perfect too.

I have to say I was very emotional after landing and couldnt stop crying. I was given a certificate and I have raised £3,036 on my just giving page
