I HAVE BEEN TOLD SHE WONT GET BETTER

Less than one minute read time.

I have recently been told my mothers treatment she is currently receiving for secondry cancer of the liver and bones will only slow down the cancer but will not cure it.

Is there anyone on here who has been under similar circumstances who can just tell me straight what to expect over the next few months. i find it hard to talk to my other family members about this because it is upsetting for them also.

I would very mutch like to hear peoples opinions/advice on this

thanks Russ

Hi Russ, have you not spoken to your Mums Doctors, it sounds like your Mum is having palliative treatment which slows the cancer down and helps keep her comfortable. Has your mum got a macmillan nurse, that can help you with any information , and will be there for your mum and the family. Hope this has been some help to you.

    Hi Russ,

I'm in a similar place to your mother also having secondary cancer in my bones and liver. The primary for me is breast cancer. This means that I am also incurable. My treatments are designed to try and keep the cancer as stable as possible, to keep me painfree and allow me to maintain (where possible) my quality of life.

You asked what you can expect over the next few months, have you been told to expect the worst sooner rather than later?

As Lucy suggested it might be useful for you to speak with your mother's doctors. If MacMillan cover your area then a Mac nurse would be a useful contact for you. Some GP surgeries have excellent District Nurses who would also be a useful support. And of course there's this site which is full of lovely people willing to offer support, answer questions and just generally "be there" for anyone that needs it.

One thing you must do, something which many people in your situation find difficult, is to look after yourself.

Hi Russ,  I also have cancer that is not currable (lung, and spread to liver and lymph nodes in chest) having said that I have had treatmement chemo and radiotherapy to keep it at bay as long as possible and am now over all my treatment and feeling fine.  I have been good for a few months now and doing all my normal things looking after my kids etc.  I would speak to the docs and mac nurses.  Hope this helps in some way its very hard when they say they cant get rid of it .  I wish you well on your journey.

    Hugs Helen
