hi my dad has the same thing, he started chemo on new years eve, he is in hospital and so far apart from a headache he has no side effects.

he is very scared and worries loads, but seems a bit calmer since going into hospital.

    good luck

Hi...I was diagnosed with low grade non hodgkins lymphoma in aug 2008 and have been in watch and wait period since then.  My last checkup revealed I may.  need treatment this year, will know more at my check up in Feb.  I am bricking it, I know i will lose my hair  (my pride and joy!). Its the fear of the unknown!.  Anyone out there who can give me advice?  Tried for 2 days now to contact my local macmillan nurse, but the number is constantly engaged.  Mandi

  • Hi

Have you both joined the NHL forum on the site. Am sure you will find lots of advice on there.

Chemo is different for everyone but we survive so try not to worry too much.

    Wishing you all the best.

  • Hi and welcome do join us in the NHL forum.

I have had 8 r-chop and the first one was not too bad, its the unknown and what people say about chemo that can scare you. Its not nice stuff but the side effects are managable and you may be lucky and suffer to much. Sore mouth, food tasting strange, steroids keeping you awake and feeling tired are the norm plus others you may or may not experience.

The pre meds and chemo are given via a needle in the arm(canular) and takes about 20mins, the R is retuximab which is given as a drip over several hours, staff will be good and talk you through it.

You should have had everything explained and it is as they tell you, simple and straight forward.

Let us know which type of NHL you have and any questions and someone will pop along and answer them.

    good luck

    John

    Hiya Rocky,

I had 8 x R-Chop earlier this year for hi-grade diffuse large b-cell lymphoma. Here's a link to a recent thread about side effects

    community.macmillan.org.uk/.../r-chop-chemo-side-effects.aspx

Hope you find the Non-Hodgkin's group. go to 'forums' then to 'cancer type groups' (they're not in alphabetical order so scroll down til you find non-hodgkins)

Hope the treatment goes well for you!
