Coffee and Sleepy

1 minute read time.

It's been a busy few weeks, but I just felt compelled to share something with you all after an inspiring weekend.

I was invited along to be part of the Macmillan Team that were running the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge oon Saturday.

Being new to Macmillan and having spent much of my time learning how things work and meeting our supporters has certainly kept me busy, but I think this last weekend was important for me as it reminded me why being part of Macmillan is so important to me.

To those of you who don't know the challenge it involves walking some 26 miles. Walkers set off at around 8am in the morning - climbing three mountains in the process! It's a challenge of mammoth proportions and around 300 people took part.

I have to admit I found it a bit overwhelming at points and will take lots of memories with me, but one sticks out.

A lady on crossing the 'finishing line burst into tears and I saw a sign on her back, which she must have wore for the entire 26 miles. It read'To the most wonderful mum ever. I miss you. This was for you.xxx'

I don't think I've ever been more inspired or touched than when I saw that. There are some truly amazing people who support Macmillan. And well done to her and her everyone who took part.

I also want to mention the staff, who I thought were amazing, working from the early hours until the very last walker came home - always supporting, guiding and encouraging everyone. Not bad considering the lack of sleep due to a snoring person in the bunk room!

And just want to mention I launched my first ever World's Biggest Coffee Morning the other day. My mug shot was even in the paper (for once I'm not pulling a face!) and thought I'd share the link for you to read.

Anyway, take care everyone.

Well done on completing the challenge. I always get involved in the coffee mornings and it is surprising how much money a few people can raise by doing  little things. But, I have so much admiration for the people that do the running. I have been at the finishing point after some of these events and it is very moving to see all those people who are taking part because of those they have lost to this awful disease.

    Best wishes,

    Dee

Well done for running it. I was there also but just about managed to walk it in about 10 and a half hours. you're right about the volunteers and staff also. They were there very late and greeted the last stragglers with cheers. It was a hell of a challenge especially the bogs! great feeling to get through those last couple of miles though. Id do it again though I doubt my feet will agree.
