Awaiting treatment plan

Less than one minute read time.

So, I'm 25 and received the news on the 10/1/12. I am soooooo scared and although I am remaining as positive as I can, I find it creeps up on me with no warning and brings tears to my eyes. I would love to hear from anyone who has had radiotherapy and can help me feel more confident about the treatment type.

  • Dear SammyP the great thing is that you have a treatment plan and, as Sally wrote, radiotherapy is painless - I had 30 sessions (5 days a week for 6 weeks) on my breast last September/October and the most laborious thing about it was going to the centre every day bar weekends! The treatment itself is very quick. Good luck - all best wishes. xx

Hi Sammy We are all scared when we have a cancer diagnosis. I think you need to have your cancer staged before the MTD put together a treatment plan. Generally with cervical cancer if the size of the cancer is not too big and the cancer is just in the cervix a hysterectomy is done. If lymph nodes are involved or it has extended beyond the cervix the treatment is usually chemo and radiotherapy. Have you had an MRI scan yet? Have you looked on Jo 's cervical cancer trust web site. It specialises in cervical cancers and explain everything in simple terms and has case studies and videos. You may find it helpful Try not to let your head play tricks with you Dianne x

Sammy, as everyone has said the actual RT is painless, depending on where they are attacking with it makes the difference in terms of side effects, mine was to the brain and I had at least 3 months of side effects which most were pretty horrendous, I'm led to believe that directed at other parts of the body then side effects are not as long or bad, but you reakky need to speak to someone who has had it to the same area as your cancer.

I was told my results last wed but they didn't say the cancer grading. MRI was week 1/2 ago. It is in cervix and margins but not lymph nodes which is reason why specialist wishes to examine me to see if hysterectomy possible. If not, oncologist sees me straight after. Thanks for all the comments. I think all of you are very strong & brave. Feels comforting to speak to people who have been in similar situations.
