Less than one minute read time.
Does anyone who has had RT for throat cancer and has suffered excessive sticky phglem like mucus know how long this problem is likely to last, my husband nearly chokes with it at times. Jenny

    Hi Jenny

Laurence uses Mucodyne(brand name) which is Carbocisteine (generic name) to help thin the mucus. I also make him up a mixture that his dental consultant said would help.  I am at the Tin Villa for the weekend but when I get home I'll PM you the recipe.  Sorry to say that Loggy still has problems near a year after RT stopped, but that could be also due to the fact he has no tongue and missing quite a lot of salivary glands.

Best wishes to you and Steve

    Hello Jenny,

My mate just completed all treatment last month.  The thick mucus is finally ceasing after a couple of months.  Jim had problems sleeping due to choking on the mucus.  I wish I knew about the Mucodyne at the time although he may not have kept it down.  It seems so much tasted terrible so that we have nicknamed him "Jimmy Spits."  Of course it was no joke, a friend offered an easy chair which helped at night when Jim was awakened in the night he often got a few hours of rest in the chair as he could sit up and no fear he would choke in his sleep.  He had 33 radiation treatments plus chemo so you have an idea on how long his experience was.  Wishing you the best for positive results!
