Hair Regrowth

1 minute read time.
I wondered whether anyone has tried a product called N****n, marketed as a volumiser and regrowth agent/follicle booster suitable for chemo baldies? [I won't print its full name as I'm aware the site rightly takes a dim view of gratuitous advertising, but it's so hideously expensive that I'm sure anybody who has forked out will have its name burned on the bank balance-conscious part of their brains...] Nearly four months post-8 months of chemo, my hair is thin and patchy, and a brief comparative survey of my chemo suite mates makes it clear they are all beating me. Even my inscrutable oncologist made an "ooer" gulping noise when I showed her my pate today. I'm serially opposed to wigs, my hair is really too short and patchy to ditch the headrags and I can't wear my foxfur because of all this darned sun... I apologise if anyone finds this post frivolous. My preoccupation may seem all the more odd as I have been told I shall be on and off chemo for the rest of my life, but I suspect some of you may understand. If anyone has any experience of this stuff, I'd be grateful to hear from you. Catriona x

  • Wonder what chemo you were on. I was on TAC and my friends having chemo with me were on FEC.

My hair took longer to grow than theirs but I have now got quite a good head of hair. I finished chemo in Sept so has taken longer than I hoped but I was never very patient.

Mine is very wavy and was grey (horrid) Have now had it dyed blond again and look like me once more.

Do not think there is any special treatment to make it grow quicker I am sorry to say.

Do not think you are frivolous at all. Bald is not a good look!!!!

If you do invest let me know if it works.

    Hey Catriona

I'm around 7.5 months out of treatment, my hair of a reasonable shape now, but really was annoying at the beginning. It was very thin and getting longer very slowly--bear in mind i had 11 months of intensive chemo. anyway i don't think all what i said is of use, but i got a question to ask you, have your docs checked your thyroid functions. An offset in its hormones level can cause such problems with hair growth. I might be wrong in guessing as it really depends on the type of chemo you had. Why don't you ask your GP or oncologist to investigate this, all you need is just a blood test! and this may give you some answers!

wish you a speedy hair growth

    Hi Catriona,

Not frivilous at all!, sometimes the only outward sign that anything is wrong, and I admit to obsessing with my hair when it fell out too! however third time around & have to say whilst I was pained, I just thought B*******s, small price.... and now keep it v short. Was told head massage can stimulate cells and hair regrowth (?) and was more fun than other options, and cheaper :) its v hard I know, but a fellow sufferer made me think about it differently when adamantly said " its other peoples problem, not mine!"

Its hard, but be patient. However if you do dig deep and give it a go, let us know how you get on

as an ex baldy,(due to chemo) and a hairdresser i can without doubt say these things dont work. and if you think about it, if they did work, do you really think that people like prince charles, elton john, bruce willis, keven costner etc, who have mega bucks would still be baldy???? they either wear hairpieces or weaves or just let it happen, dont waste your money, pamper yourself instead with something that makes you feel good, cos that stuff will leave you feeling disappointed at best. you can get decent long term weaves, they are expensive but last a long time, and can look very good take care liz xx

  • Have just seen the comment from Alive. I have had an underactive thyroid for many years and have been on 100mg of thyroxine. Since March this year I have not been feeling too good. A blood test 3 weeks ago showed a blip in the hormone level so I have been prescribed 150mg and I have started to feel much better.

May be an answer to your problem of your hair growing so slowly.

    Best of Luck

    Sue x
