Prostate cancer /travel insurance

Less than one minute read time.

My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in December 2023 - he has completed the recommended course of radiotherapy and requires no further treatment and no medication . Our current travel insurance provider added an extra £414.00 to cover this on a recent trip to Europe - I was wondering if anyone in a similar position has found a insurance company providing a better deal

  • Hello   My name is Brian and I myself have Prostate Cancer - I hang around on the Prostate Cancer forum and if you do need any help or advice or just even a chat with folk on the same or similar journey to your husband here's the link for you:

    Prostate cancer forum

As for travel insurance we also have a special forum for that and again here's the link

Travel insurance forum for cancer patients

If you click on each link it will take you to the forum.

Mrs Millibob and I have an annual worldwide police with insurancewith and this cost us about £ 780. I am a Gleason 9 T3aN0M0 and completed Radiotherapy in February 2023. Mrs Millibob has issues too (medical!!).

When trying to arrange travel insurance it's a good idea to call the company as all the various companies use the same algorhythms to work out your quote and humans do it better!!

Good luck on your quest and I hope you have a great holiday.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi all , had to get new name to sign in as jonnymac22 would not let me in , anyway forgive the unusual way of trying to get on here to update my recent cancellations re brachytherapy etc , think I had already said it was cancelled in June re chest and then urine infections, well had a done call off my consultant as his understudy suggested I just not have anything done bar injections ! Wasn’t happy at all , so my consultant said he will do it with permanent seed now instead of the HDR Tem seed which is one I’d definitely want with me having Crohn’s , he did say he will personally perform procedure re the epidural method and try make sure my bowel is protected to his fullest attention, it does mean re the ext beam method re four weeks of blast at it , that’s now in October as I’d booked Dominican in September thinking I’d be all sorted by then , as it was a phone call when you have to think fast on yer feet , the reason it’s not being the hdr like he said on first consultation because I’m guessing he not wanting to put me to sleep if I’d got a chest infection, been clear of them last three weeks tho , so I’m onto his secretary to see if I can change , fingers crossed as my Crohn’s been u der control since December, cheers

  • Hi all, finally in nxt Friday for brachytherapy after our two weeks in Dominican Republic to get ready for this again , assuming my chest infection has subsided so I can have the one with the tubes in to prostate and then out after procedure so I don’t have to have the one with seeds requiring radiotherapy re my Crohn’s problem as I have that bit of my life about under control, so getting assessed Friday morning first , but I have read that epidural can be done for this one with the tubes ? So hopefully I don’t get turned away like other month re chest infection

  • Well not the news I was wanting from my surgeon at Leeds yesterday, won’t do my brachytherapy because I can’t be put to sleep as I have a cough I’ve had for 20 odd years! It’s on my file so why after 18 months I’m told this and all I can have now is the HT injection, to say I’m down and disappointed is an understatement

  • Hi all , I’m just checking to see if any of my messages on here are coming through? Cheers
