worried and scared

1 minute read time.
hi im not sure if im posting this correctly i am sure someone will let me know if not. my partner had bowel cancer 5 years ago and had a colectomy with ileorectal anastomosis. he has not been well since xmas and has lost two stone in weight. he has severe pain in the rectal area particularly after eating. blood tests revealed an abnormal liver count and an enlarged liver. he has had an mri scan this week and a ct scan on his liver on monday. we are both worried that the cancer has returned and he is already taking morphine for pain even before being diagnosed!? my main fear, and i know im being paranoid, is that when we go for results the consultant will say there is nothing they can do for him!! does anyone know if the consultant would say anything like that? i know im bein pathetic but my head is all over the place at the moment we have no family living nearby and im feeling very isolated, overwhelmed and out of my depth. i work full time as we have a very large mortgage and i hate having to leave him alone evry day. any comments would be welcome. i am finding this site my lifeline at the moment as i have no one else to talk to. many thanks.

The answer to your original question "when we go for results the consultant will say there is nothing they can do for him!! does anyone know if the consultant would say anything like that"

From our experience after the MRI Scan,  came a CT Scan and a biopsy.   Once they had a fuller picture then we were sat down and told that anything they did was pallative and for pain relief.  We were explained everything as fully as our consultant could then he went and dictated everything to his secretary and came back with it in letter form so we could read it and take it all in.   This was only our experience everyone is different.

If you want to see the letter we were given follow the link.
