Picc Lines.

Less than one minute read time.

Hi, I am going to see  Oncologist on 10th December to discuss details of forth coming chemo treatment due to start on 15.12.10. I have noticed several members refering to fitting of  Picc lines before chemo.Does anyone know if Is it standard practice to have one fitted before treatment starts and are they they painful.?

Thanks Polly. x

Hiya i had a line fitted before i started my chemo although i didnt have the picc line as it just wasnt practical when i have kids, i opted for the hickman line. I didnt have a very good experiance when they put the line in, however, ive only had one round of chemo and im currently in hospital, having bloods taken everyday!!! So i would really reccomend having a line fitted i would have had very sore arms if mine wasnt in!!!

Good luck with it and any questions just ask,

    Love Emma xx :-)

  • Hello Polly,

I have got a PICC line and it is not a problem for me at all, having it put in was easy too. Not everyone has them fitted for chemo - it depends on the treatment you are having, I am sure you will find out at your appointment.

    Hope this helps

    Love Cathie x

    Hi Polly,

I have had a PICC line fitted, didn't feel a thing, makes taking blood and having chemo much easier. It needs flushing once a week by a district nurse but again you don't feel anything. People have said if you don't have one fitted and they have to find a vein each time you have chemo it can get painful as your veins harden as chemo goes on.

I've had 2 rounds of chemo so far and it's worked fine for me. Hope all goes well. love Maxine
