Visiting the surgeon and other 'fun' things!

1 minute read time.
Well folks I saw the surgeon yesterday evening (only 1 and a half hours late - appoinment 4.40 pm, actually seen 6.20 pm). The good news is, as far as they can tell, I don't need a mastectomy just a lumpectomy, I wont need chemotherapy, just radiotherapy and then take tablets for the next 5 years. This is all dependant on what they find after they have examined the tissue they remove and the lymph node they are taking at the same time. However, the surgeon said that, from what they've seen so far, he thinks it very unlikely that I will have to have anything further done than that. No guarantees given of course. Also, as far as they can tell, it is a very very small, 'well behaved' type I tumour, which is also good. Will be having my op the first week of the new year. Therefore, why did this 57 year old woman not sleep all night then end up sitting on the sofa at 8.00 am this morning, hugging a cushion and sobbing "I want my mummy"? The dam finally broke and it all came out. Fortunately the Breast Care Nurse service in Exeter seems to be absolutely top notch. I rang Gill, my nurse, and she saw me at 10.00 am. How's that for service! Feel much better now. Funny how a bit of "sorry for yourself" crying can lift your spirits isn't it? Thank you for all your good wishes yesterday.

That's great news Pobs! I was thinking how you had got on last night.  Your reaction is absolutely normal and many here will recognise it.  I'm glad that you were able to speak to your specialist nurse too. They can be a great help.

Good luck with the rest of your journey. Have a big hug from me.

    Take care

Hi Probs. Glad it wasn't too bad for you.

I have been through the same thing and felt the same as you. It brought it all back to me reading your blog.

My lump was found after my mammogram and I was called in. I thought it was just a duff x-ray and was devastated when they told me. That was in September. I have had a lumpectomy it was larger than they thought and I had to have a second op as they didn't get clear margins the first time but it wasn't so bad. Lymph nodes were clear and will be having radio after Christmas

I know it's all very well me saying this but lots of us have been there and we are with you in mind and on here.

    Love Veggie

Crying is so cathartic.  Very cleansing, not to mention wonderfully selfish.  Keep the tissues close and blub whenever you want ~ it will do you good.

    *sending best wishes*
