Not good scan results!!

Less than one minute read time.

:hiya: Everyone,

I have come away for the week with my dh and the kids, we have rented a house at the beach.

Unfortunately dads scan showed that the tumours have resisted the chemo and have continued to grow although not at the rate that they would have done without the chemo according to the consultant. Its devastating news but neither dad nor his doctor are prepared to give up yet....they have got him booked in for BEP chemo as an in patient starting on Monday...unfortunately i have had this break planned for a few weeks and the plan was that mum and dad were coming with us as we have come to the place that mum and dad used to bring us every year as kids 'tenby' and dad has insisted that we still come and as beautiful as it is here i still feel that i should be at home but mum, and my brother and sister have promised to call me if anything happens and every  night after visiting with and update.

Hope you are all well. Vicki xxx

Sorry the scans aren't what you wanted but the docs have already got something else lined up which is good (in a scary way?!?). If your dad's anything like me, he'll be wanting you all to enjoy this holiday together - so many memories and so much to show the kids. I grew up around that area and am looking forward to taking my two back some time (my mum lives in tenby) - you know, stuff like "Ooh that's the rock we used to sit on to write crap poetry when we were twelve!" and "Ooh, that's the shop I bought my first Grace Jones album from!" and "Ooh! There's the club we used to get into in the days before ID was needed!" You get the picture, haha - I can hear the gasps of delight from my two already (they're 19 and 18)... Please try to relax and enjoy a nice place with your family. It sounds just the thing to recharge your Dad's batteries before the next chemo starts. Hope the weather stays good with you all.

    Love karenx

Thankyou guys, we are having a lovely week the sun has been shining every day and we have been on the beach constantly with the kids and the dogs. I am on this holiday for my kids but it was booked for my parents too and its just soooo sad that they can't be here....we all saw this break as his last chance as it takes 4 1/2 hours from our house to here.

It is really hard being here and not with him whilst he is in hospital, but i am calling the hospital every morning and either my mum or my sister are calling me every night after visiting to keep me up to date and it seems so far he is doing well although because of his throat he is limited to speaking only yes and no answers although the treatment itself only started this morning so time will tell.

Just had an update from my mum, Dads treatment started yesterday but now he has had to have a blood transfusion through the night. The cisplatin (which he had an allergic rection to) in now in his system....hopefully he will be ok today. Tenby sunshine is out again!! xxx

sorry to hear the scan results were not goo, in a fairly similar position, dad has been suffering acute lower back pain for a few weeks with no obvious cause so they ordered an x-ray which he had yesterday - they think it might be the obvious spreading! he hopes to have results by the end of the week.  At least you have managed to get a break so enjoy every moment, you will need a rest ready to deal with more treatment when you get back.  Don't forget that although its your dad having the treatment, you go going through it too but in a different way.  Have a good time!
