New Chemo, any ideas of side effects?

Less than one minute read time.
Hi guys and gals, Dad is being started (hopefully) on thursday with his nesw chemo cyle. Out of the last cycle he only had the 1st dose as he had a severe reaction to the cisplatin. On thurs he is supposed to be starting the new stuff which is ETOPISED AND CARBOPLATIN. I say supposed to because he is still in hospital on a drip to rehydrate him. Can anyone give me some idea of what this new stuff may have in store for him. He has had such a bad experience with the cisplatin last time he is contemplating not having it atall and he has an appt with the specialist tomorrow to discuss this. Lots of love and best wishes to you all. xx

Hi Vicki my mum has had 3 lots of carboplatin and etoposide and her cancer has shrunk a bit.  Her symptoms of breathlessness and a constant cough have both diminished greatly, in fact the cough has gone.  It makes her extremey tired for about a week after and she has felt a bit nauseous but no sickness and her anti-sickness meds keep the nausea to a minimum (only lasts a couple of days).  She doesn't like taking the etoposide on the 2nd and 3rd days at home as they are like big bombs and have to be taken an hour before food.  Her chemo nurse advised her to take her anti-sickness meds half an hour before she takes the etoposide, prevention better than cure!  She has also lost her hair.  I hope it goes well for your dad tomorrow and that it works for him as it has for my mum.  Tell him to drink plenty of water/juice following his treatment, don't know why but mums chemo nurse told her it was important.

Dad was ok yesterday he is still in hospital and he had his 1st session of the new chemo combination yesterday afternoon. He was alright while i was there but he went very sleepy quite quickly, i'm hoping for a phone call within the next couple of hours to say he has had a good night.

Thanks for all your good wishes.xx

Hi Vicki, that's really good news.  Bet your dad is delighted to be back home.  Hope he continues to feel better.  I've put a new photo of me and mum on my photos so you can see how well she is looking after 3 lots of carboplatin and etoposide. Hoping her bloods were ok today and she can have her 4th chemo tomorrow.  Caroline XX
