Introduction

Less than one minute read time.

30th January 2021 is a day that myself and my loved ones will not forget in a hurry, this was the day I was told I had what looked like a tumour in my bowel, but further investigations would need to be carried out to see if it was cancerous.

My name is Peter Brown and this is my bowel cancer story. The reason for me sharing this is to raise awareness of bowel cancer first of all. Secondly if anything I put in my story can help just one person whether it be someone going through bowel cancer or supporting someone with bowel cancer, then that will be fantastic. Equally if someone sees my story and reads how I was physically before I went to get checked out, and it encourages them to go get checked out (and fingers crossed it is nothing for that person) then again that will be great.

  • I just wanted to leave a quick message after noticing your blog.  From someone who supported their husband through bowel cancer when he was just 32 (a last minute operation and then chemo), I think it is amazing that you are sharing your story with others, when you are going through so much yourself.

  • When my husband was diagnosed, I didn't know anything much about bowel cancer or that you could get it so young, so the shock for both of us was hard to take, as well as the worries of what was coming next.  Through people like yourself, you are making others aware how important it is to get checked out, if something doesn't seem right and it makes such a difference to other people.

  • Thank you, to be honest I was never sure if I would share my story, but then I thought if it can help one person, even persuade them to get checked and it turn out they are fine, then that will be great. As I was on the same boat myself not knowing much about it. I hope your husband is doing a lot better now
