Being a bit PICCy!

1 minute read time.
Only 3 more days to go now! Treatment starts Tuesday afternoon after Easter. Had a mild panic this morning as hubby mentioned, as I was getting myself dry after getting out of the shower, stylishly wearing my new PICC line protector, which incedently did the trick and kept everything stayed dry thank goodness, but I digress..... he mentioned that he could not see the tattoos on my hips and lower back. I have never really looked to tell you the truth since they were done till this morning. I did have a quick glance the evening they were done on the left and right side and thought I could see an inky mark but didn't deliberate over them for long! On closer inspection the one on the left hip is clearly there but the one on the right hip took some looking for! I think there may be a tiny pin prick mark but certainly not as big as the one on the left. Of course contorting myself to try to see the one at the back proved impossible even with the aid of a long length mirror! John said he thought most of the marks around there were freckles and he could not see anything that resembled a tattoo mark! He did not have his glasses on though so I am hoping he is just missed it and it is definitely there! I will be most upset if when I get there on Tuesday they can't find it and it all has to be done again causing another delay to getting started. My PICC line is OK but I still have the stiffness in the biceps muscle just above my elbow and it is quite tender to touch there and it is a bit hard underneath too but otherwise all OK. It is difficult to know if this really is OK as the information leaflet they gave me says to contact the centre if it becomes tender! Seems to me it is bound to be a bit tender till the vein gets used to the line being in there! Anyone else out there have any experience of this? Not sure there will be anyone there over the bank holidays anyway. Happy Easter one and All! Peta x

    Hi Peta,

I have one tattoo on my chest, it is tiny...just a pin prick sized black dot that I can't really see unless I really, really look closely. I'm sure that your one is there too, but mention it when you go to the Hospital next and I'm sure they'll have a look!

Also, about your PICC. My arm was quite tender and stiff for a little while after having it put in - I agree with you that it must be because of the vein trying to get used to something being in there.

    Take care

They will find them and then enhance them with pen when they set their co-ordinates - hence my granddaughters funny about why are they writing on granddad's bum - haven't they got any paper. I am sure you will be OK and after three or four sessions they will get used to you and it won't take long. I even knew where to get on the table - there were two scratch marks that were level with my eyes so I could do half of the job for them. When I had a strange radiographer he got me in the wrong position - I knew from the scratch marks - but when I told him he wouldn't listen and finished up getting one of the regulars to hump me about to get me lined up. Keep using the "soothing" cream though. Radiation burns creep up very subtley as I found out!

    Keep smiling

    Hi Peta,

As Drew says they mark your tatoos each day with felt pens of different colours.

I came home every day and put my cream on and went for a sleep, after a few days I noticed my sheets were covered in red and blue crosses.

Moral..... wash them off before you go for a lie down.
