Just found out my cancer is incurable

Less than one minute read time.

Yesterday that doctor told me that my cancer is incurable.  Without treatment I have only months to live, with treatment I may last up to 2 years.

My son is only 12.  How can I get through this?

  • I remember when you embarked on this horrible cancer 'journey' and responded to you when you had your initial diagnosis. I'm too am so sorry to hear you have been given this news. What heartens me is that so many members on this site who have been given a similar diagnosis are still around months and sometimes years later. Personally, I think doctors should keep their bl**dy opinions to themselves and not issue meaningless 'best-before dates' to patients. Go fight.... and bite them all on the b*m!

I would get in contact with your Macmillan nurse asap too, because they are wonderful at being informed about the side effects of any drugs you may be on and are a good source of advice at the other end of a phone. Macmillan look after people living life to the full with cancer - this is what you need. Before I'd experienced cancer I always pictured Macmillan looking after bedridden patients - but this is not so, and in fact Macmillan are not the most useful for that type of patient. The best way I can put cancer is is that it's chronic condition that needs constant monitoring - but if you take care of yourself and remain proactive there's no reason why you can't live on and enjoy your life just as the next person!
