It doesn't rain it pours!

2 minute read time.
We found out yesterday that my boyfriend's Nan has breast cancer and had her 1st session of chemo. It's a bit of a shock as we did not know that anything was wrong. Then today i called to check on how she was doing and found out that she was admitted to hospital last night as she was having really bad chest pains and felt like she couldn't breathe. They said that it could be angina? I'm quite worried as we don't know any of the details - how serious it is, what chemo she's having, how long it's for, whether she'll need an operation etc etc. They probably kept it from us due to what's happening with me? My chemo is starting on the 23rd Feb :s Sooner than expected but that's good i guess as the sooner it starts the sooner it will finish. I'm having 6 cycles of Caelyx - once every 3 weeks. I had a pre chemo assessment appointment today but after an hour and a half they remembered that i'd had chemo before so said i didn't really need the chat? I had my bloods done and am back Monday for an ECG as they did not have my form and the 1st chemo. I'm worried about work. They are being more understanding now but when i first told them one of 1st things my line manager commented on was my sickness record! They have suggested that i see occupational health after i've had my 1st treatment and have a better idea how it's going to affect me. I've refused to see the one i saw before who said that i had clear anatomical distortion of the left leg due to Fibromatosis and walked with a limp but in his opinion it was debatable whether i had a disability but that they should treat me as though i am covered by the Disability Discrimation Act anyway! I am dreading the chemo. I have a hard enough time getting up and going to work as it is so goodness knows how i'm going to motivate myself when i feel really crappy. Maybe it won't be that bad though? One of the most common side effects of Caelyx is sore blistered hands but the Doc told me that udder cream is very good and really helps! It's the unknown that is the problem. If only i knew, i could prepare myself for it.

chemo affect`s everyone different, and the first can sometimes be the worst, i ended up in hospital for 4 days after my first, then they found out what had happened an prevented it the next time, chemo affects your whole body including your heart, and only the docs know what happened, but hopefully they will get it sorted. good luck with the rest of her treatment.

no sorry perry had 8 sessions of fec100 and taxotere to come, so i`m not an expert, but on the positive side i was told i had 3 to 4 months to live last march, and thanks to chemo i`m still here, so although it`s not something we want to go through, the benifits outweigh the pain and discomfort so hang in there both of you and put up a good fight

    Hi, Perry,

Liz is spot on. Chemo is a pig, but you'll get through it. Nurses are a great help re any side effects.

Haven't had Caelyx, but worth phoning Cancerbacup for a chat. They'll be able to help.

    Thinking of you & Gran.
