Still hanging in there

1 minute read time.
I realised that it is some time since I last put an update on my blog. Pat was diagnosed with Epilepsy to add to the list last November. We got through Christmas and Pat's 68th birthday. He continues to decline and is wonderfully nursed at the home. Our only problem is that he has frequent hospital visits with blocked catheters and Urinary Tract Infections that canot be dealt with at the home. This involves a nineteen mile ambulance journey and hours in A and E. Last visit was last weekend. I know a supra pubic catheter may be considered but any procedure carries extra risks for such an ill person. He is now on a liquid diet and quite a lot of Morphine and has lost 7 stone since last May but he still knows me although he cannot speak. Because he has deteriorated we qualified for a review of his funding as he has to pay towards his care at the moment. I will know if I have been sucessful in a couple of weeks. I have become quite an 'expert' in NHS Continuing Care. It is a complex and stressful process and very difficult to get the NHS to pay.
