A safe place

Less than one minute read time.

Pat went into a nursing home on 28th June. Such were his needs that it was not possible to have him home. I see him every day and we spend quality time together despite the fact that he cannot speak. Many years together make non verbal communication possible. It was a very hard decision for us all.

He now has a new GP from the surgery next door to the home which is 7 miles away. This doctor is prepared to give the Octreotide injections which will save Pat being lugged by ambulance the 19 miles to the hospital every 4 weeks.

    Big hugs to you Panda,

I'm sure this was a very difficult decision. It sounds as though his care will be managed very well. may you have much more quality time together.

Hi Panda, I'm glad you are able to spend that quality time with Pat, and its good that he doesn't have to go through that long journey now and can have the injection more locally. It must be one of the hardest decisions you ever had to make, but I do feel sometimes its taken out of our hands, due to the level of care and pain management required, that you just can't achieve at home. You take care of yourself too. Nic x

Thank you both for your kind words. Over the past couple of weeks I have seen that it was indeed the right decision. He needs 3-4 carers to hoist, clean and reposition him and as Nic says the decision was taken out of my hands.

It is indeed quality time. We sat and ate lunch together yesterday with music from my ipod in the background and it was lovely.

Today the GP gave him his monthly injection and now the deputy matron has been shown how to do it in future.

I feel a huge sense of relief that he is safe.

Thank you again for the support.

    Panda.
