mum

Less than one minute read time.

been and cooked mum a meal which she really enjoyed even if it was only a bit of poached fish and mashed potatoe ,but she now has horrendous indigestion and doesnt jknow how to reliefve it despite taking medicine from doctor .shes not eating much at all at the moment.and is getting really weak she sleeps most of the day and doesnt even have the strength to pull the quilt up the bed.consequently she then gets  frustrated as shes so used to being independent although this has seemed to bring us really close as i am doing most things for her now.dont know if its the cancer or something else but her memory seems to be getting really bad as wellxx

This sounds similar to me, My mum sleeps a lot and is weak also and eating very little. This is all new to me, I dont know very much but I do know is that it’s a good thing you are there with her, caring and doing whatever you can no matter how small a thing, those things matter. Hugs x

    Hi passionflower

I know exactly what you are going through, despite having a stent fitted Mum is only able to swallow fluids now, and is very weak. She too has always been very independant and is finding it so hard now that she is too weak to shower herself or climb the stairs without help. I am very lucky as my stepdad is ding an amazing job caring for her, but she is sometimes a but nippy with him because she findds it hard that she is now so dependant at the age of 66.

I think the only thing that any of us can do is to be there in any way we can, make the most of the times when our mums are not too tired to talk, and make sure we take a little time out for us too. My mum is sometimes a bit forgetful too now, I have been putting it down to the morphine.(mum has multiple tumours under her skin all over now).

You doing a fab job just by being there for her, and as regards the indigestion, it may actually be pain from the food fighting to pass the tumour in the gullet (thats what mum was suffering from so may be worth mentioning to your mums nurse).

anyway, just wanted to send some hugs as I know how hard some days can bex

    Best wishes Sharonxx

Modgirl, sorry to hear that you too are going through this with your mum, hugs to you too,xxx

Hi passionflower and welcome to the site.  I am so sorry that your mum is going through this.  You are in a very similar situation to me, modgirl and Sharon by the sounds of it.  My mum has actually done well with her treatment and has been NED for 5 months but the steroids she has been on for her extreme tiredness and lack of appetite after RT have made her muscles in her legs and arms very weak.  She has always been so independent.  Is your mum on any morphine?  My mum got very confused with it at one point.  Another thing to consider is low sodium which can also cause confusion.  This often happens if the person isn't taking in enough fluid and becomes dehydrated.  Make sure even if she can't eat that she has plenty to drink.  And don't forget to look after yourself too.  Caroline XX

    Hi Flower,

Sounds like you are going through a rough time at the moment. You  will have to play it day by day, and

look after yourself as well we dont want you ending up making yourself Ill that will help nobody.

Take care and be safe Big Hugs LoveSarsfield.xxx

    P.S. Regards to your Mum.
