carers and their role

Less than one minute read time.

does anyone on this site know what the carers sent in by social services are supposed to do .my mum was main carer for my stepdad who has mobility problems .since she was diagnosed in june with terminal oesophegal cancer  i have been doing most things for her while my stepdad has a carer who goes in to see to him .when i say see to him what is the carers role???he has someone who goes in am and pm as he wears surgical stockings for medical reasons and cant take them off himself .on many occasions that is all they do .if pots have been used in between me going and the carer going they wont wash them if he asks as they say they dont have the time .on the few occasions one of the girls has done it for them they end up being done again .do you think im being petty or do you think they should help a bit more .(sorry about the moan but im stressed up today )xxxx

hi, firstly im a male, but i looked at this and had to comment. my wife is a carer with the council home care, she has been doing it for years, before that she was a carer for various employers. she is good at what she does and thats not me talking. for some time now the wife and others have been a bit unhappy, they used to know or knew of people who knew the persons they cared for, they knew what they had to do, and got on with it. its all upside down now, the person in charge of them couldnt organize a drinks night in a brewery, but nothing is done. if they do anything not in the care plan they get into trouble from the office, some are quite happy to complain, anyway first point of action speak to your care plan manager for a review of the care plan and see what time you can get allocated and what tasks need doing, you will need to contact the social worker at the same time and get them to sit down and sort out time allocation, and some form of schedule of when your not there to give care. it all comes down to budgets and care managers, most of the ' girls, are willing with the odd exception. good luck regards fm skicared for, normally
