Has anyone got any advise for me!

Less than one minute read time.
Hi I am new to this and don't know whether I am doing it right but I will carry on anyway. I was diagnosed with Breast cancer in may this year and had a lumpectomy in june. I am know having FEC chemo I had my first dose 15th july and my next dose is tomorrow and I am dreading it. I was really sick after my first lot and had to go back to the hospital to have some different drugs and be rehydrated. I would like to hear other peoples experience of FEC and if you have any advise to help me through the next 5 cycles I would be very grateful.

    Hi Pamela,

I like you was diagnosed, lumpectomy then 6 FEC treatments and radiotherapy.  I've just had my thrid lot of chemo and have had varying experiences through each treatment.  Everyone does react differently and my only advice to you would be to listen to your body and do what you need.  If you need to sleep, relax on the sofa  - do it!  If you want to eat 6 mini magnums in one day then do it.  I found it dificult to deal with the tiredness as this is not something I'm used to, and because it is not a "physical" symptom I pushed myself probably more than I should have.

If you want to chat or need advice this site is fantastic - and everyone is so positive (although we all have a couple of off days).  Feel free to pm me if you need to or have any questions, I found this really useful in knowing what to expect!

Good luck with it, and remember it will be over before we know and roll on 2010 !

Hi Pamela,  I too was diagnosed at end of April with Breast Cancer.  I seem to be going down a slightly different route to you.  I had 3 FEC chemo and now on 3 TAC chemo as my lump had not shrunk enough to remove it yet.  My last TAC is next Wednesday then see my consultant to get date for my lumpectomy.  All i can tell you is the FEC was not too bad, I had to just take it day to day, the first week was rough was not sick, but if you finding you are ask for something different for the sickness I am now on a stronger sickness pill and they gave me the sickness drug by iv also which was good.  You just have to take it day to day and do what you feel you can.  My only advice would be dont stay in bed, at least get up and curl up on sofa, then i felt that I was getting on.

if you want to pm me please feel free and keep strong.  we will all get there in the end

i had fec 100, finished in sept, my worst was my first i ended up in hospital for 4 days, after that it actually got better with each one, the last 2 they had to give me my anti sickness first as on the 6th i threw up during the chemo oooops silly me. (how embarresing). there was joint pain for quite a while after in legs, shinns, calves and heels. i had mine every 3 weeks and felt quite good halfway through the second week, i had it on tuesays and didnt start feeling ill till fridays. when you feel ill go with it dont fight it lie down or lounge about, cos it doesnt help to fight it, it wears you out more and you will feel fatigued. good luck. liz xxx

Hi I'm new to the site.  I have breast cancer.  Will most likely receive rad/chemo.  Did you need a shunt or port for the chemo?

I hope you are feeling better.  Not to worry about throwing up.  It happened to me after I had a lumpectomy.  Nurses are very understanding.
