help me understand mums death please

Less than one minute read time.

Hi mun passed away from stage 4 overian cancer . She put up a great fight for over 14 months with major surgery and chemo . She was admitted to hospital 2 weeks ago as she was vomiting alot and we was told it was terminal . She had 2 drivers inserted into her legs to help with pain and sickness . The day she passed aeay we was called to hospital to say mum was doing well she had a few weeks left with us and would be moved to hospice . That nighy we went up at 8pm as usual to find mum in so much psin . I went to ask nurse for pain relif so she came back and injected mum in thigh with something but as soon as she done this mum went unconcious and found it hard to breath and grew her angel wings few hours later . Was this an end of life injection or did something go wrong I am having so much trouble understanding this . Has anyone else experienced this x

    Hello Louise

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's passing. I'm afraid I'm not able to provide an explanation but maybe you should talk with the ward doctors, they should be able to explain what was given to your Mum and why. I hope they are able to put your mind at rest.

Sending love and best wishes to you and your family,

    Rachel x

Hi there some people seem to get some energy and perk up a little soon before the end of life which is why she may have had a good morning at the hospital. When you arrived and seen her distressed it was probably then something called terminal agitation. This can be normal right before death and can be due to many natural reasons. The nurses probably gave your mum a pain killer and something called midazolam to relax her. This slows the breathing down and gives patients a nice feeling which works well with pain killers. I'm sure it is a coincidence she died after the injection as it would be a prescribed dose that would be safe to give ur mum and these controlled drugs are monitored very closely so more could not be given. Hope this helps a little to know it probably wasn't something that went wrong x
