Pampering, Comfort and De-stress

3 minute read time.

My DH is still poorly.  Had another restless night – not helped by having the bed sheet pulled off as he tried to wrap himself up like an Egyptian mummy.  I will put on the king size sheets to allow for tossing and turning.

I was stroking his head, shoulder and back and he gave off little pop pop sounds in his sleep.  This I find comforting for both of us.  I found it brought down his blood pressure to the extent he no longer needs blood pressure tablets.  He has a good head of hair so it is like stroking a cat or dog – very relaxing.

DH did give me a back massage of sorts – but was rather distracted by the football on TV!  I kept my eyes shut as I found I was seeing double and all those players were making me giddy.  I fell asleep before the end of the match so still do not know who won.  From the first part of the match I don’t think I missed much.

Today I plan to have some ME time and de-stress:  Warm bath with bubbles and long soak; manicure and pedicure.  Then I will mix some almond oil with a few essential oils and give myself a leisurely massage.  My skin has gone dry.

I will refill the sprays with water and some essential oils to spray around – far nicer than air fresheners – and cheaper!  Open windows and this spray is perfect for me.

No need to water the plants today as it is raining.  The blackbirds are happy and singing away.

DH is supposed to go to the hospital re his spine this morning and I am wondering whether he will be up to going.  As he has been relaxing so much he is not in too much pain with his spine.  For years he has been told to walk to ease the pain – but then the doc was saying it was his hips.  This proved wrong after three years of treatment and his hips were found to be OK and the walking only brought on more pain and he could hardly move sometimes.  The problem was his spine – which had been identified by a CT scan some three years ago – and overlooked!

Time for a quick coffee and then pop in the bath.  I hope it is going to be a good day today.

Definitely a good day - news of a break through treatment for cancer.

This is said to be effective for ovarian cancer.

....... Well it was meant to be a good day.  Was up very early only to find later in the morning that DH had been violently sick with runs a number of times that morning.  Cancelled hospital visit.  Day 6 of his sickness and he was sweating.  Called the doc who came out to visit.  Then he confessed - he had raided the fridge behind my back!  The doc told him he must stick to what I had been doing foodwise - and there could be no cuddling!  Cuddle - I could have murdered him!  I finished emptying the already practically bare fridge so there would be no temptation.  After 48 hours he was feeling better and now is eating properly.

A week of looking after DH has been harder going than three years of full time care for my late husband.

The bathroom carpet is beyond cleaning so have arranged for some Cushion Flooring to be put down which will be more hygienic.  Some good has come from this.

Hi Christine - no relaxation time it turned out - he was sick and runs so much I had to call the doc out.  Been busy with the steam cleaner but think we now need new carpet!  Think my relax will be on the bed.  Tomorrow is another day
