Physio for reluctant ladies

Today not only did I have Radiotherapy, but I also sought the help of a Physiotherapist, referred by NHS Oncology and Breast Cancer Nurses at the suggestion of Radiotherapists due to problems and pain getting my arms in the required position hold.

A strange place, but I liked the wall full of "Myths" - as in "You must have perfect posture" and "Exercise has to hurt". I immediately felt better whilst waiting and less apprehensive.

What surprised me, and the real reason for writing this Blog post is that I was told that I was offered the appointment because I was informed that the women in the area where I live (which will remain nameless) refused to see the Physiotherapist and there were appointments going begging. I had been waiting some weeks, and was therefore ecstatic to be offered an appointment.

The reason for the reluctance to participate in these fun games designed to help us ladies in pain? Physiotherapist was a male.

I'll let this sink in for a while......

My Physiotherapist is a lovely young man with muscles to die for, enthusiastic and very keen to help. A shining example of what musculoskeletal means.......

My bad arm was manipulated to within an inch of its life and feels much more supple. There was immediate relief. I was put through my paces at an ungodly hour of the morning and as a result have been instructed to do exercises which involve a rolling pin and towel, and climbing up walls.

We think the muscles and tissues are too tight after those pesky nodes were removed in armpits or wherever they were.

Onwards and upwalls.
