When I started the zoledronic acid bone infusions I was told these would be for 3 years, so actually this would be my last one. But, as is common with breast cancer, treatment protocols change all the time, and now these are recommended for 5 years, so another 4 to go. My feelings on this are positive, my view is to take all the treatment on offer in the hope to prevent or stall any recurrence.
Unlike last time, the nurse managed to get my cannula in first time (phew!) and the infusion was quick and easy. My blood pressure has reduced by the time she had finished (it was sky high in anticipation of multiple cannula attempts before she started) and I was back at work within an hour.
Some better news in the cholesterol front too. It has dropped from 7.1 to 6.6. High cholesterol is a side effect of letrozole and I've been trying to manage this with diet. My oncologist was pretty p*****d off with me for taking soy milk (despite much research suggesting this has no impact on oestrogen positive breast cancer) so I am alternating oat, almond and cow! I'm also trying to eat a lot of cooked tomato and this apparently has a cholesterol reducing effect. Anyways, something seems to be working for the moment.
