The Annual Trip to the Hospital

I always face into my annual check up and mammogram with a level of trepidation and a fair few “what ifs…..” on the few days beforehand.  Normally I am able to compartmentalise my thoughts of recurrence risk, but as the check up date looms, so does that fear that lurks deep inside me, bubbling up and threatening to take over.

My appointment took all of 10 mins, the surgeon thinks everything looks fine and the subsequent mammogram (they never get any more comfortable do they) was also clear, phew, I can relax again.

Until……2 days later I receive a letter from the surgeon, for a follow up appointment on 1 July. Next week????  I went into immediate panic, my stomach was churning and I was short of breath and could hardly speak as I called the hospital.  The lovely receptionist took a look at my file, started to say maybe there was an error and then started to laugh.  She suggested I check the date in the letter again, and much to my relief and embarrassment, I realised this appointment is actually for 1 July 2025!!!   Oops, attention to detail isn't my strong point, but it was interesting that I jumped to the negative without paying a lot of attention.
