Radiotherapy Late Effects Team

Well, I've reached 50-something years old without knowing there's such a things as a radiotherapy late effects team. I was greeted today at my referral by a lovely radiotherapist who reminded me that she'd spoken to me at least twice on the phone and then asked me how my trip to Florida back in November (just after my radiotherapy) had been. Wow, talk about impressed! I can't remember the conversation I had last week with my husband, let alone with a random stranger 6 months ago.

Anyway, as ever, I digress. I was there because finally I'd hit 6 months post radiotherapy and the “nuked boob” is still swollen and still hurts and clearly isn’t going to get any better by itself. We've now ascertained it's possibly lymphoedema (another referral coming up) and I need to do some breathing exercises and some gentle massage to try and encourage the annoying fluid build up to disappear off down the lymphatic system rather than hanging around in my boob!

Cancer really is the gift that keeps on giving……
