Post radiotherapy check up

Radiotherapy finished 3 weeks ago now and I am still a bit swollen, a bit uncomfortable and a bit worried. There was a tender lump area which was bothering me and today I had an ultrasound, as the oncologist put it, for peace of mind. Yep, it's a build up of fluid and swelling which is completely normal and in addition, the seroma near my scar is still there. It's a persistent little thing, isn't it!  I got quite fascinated looking at it in the ultrasound scan, a 2cm black lump of fluid! Apparently it will go away (yep really??) and I just need to watch for infection.

As I wandered back through the complex warren of hospital corridors today, heading for my morning latte from the M&S cafe (note, hospitals have improved significantly over the years) I noticed the various different people working there; doctors, nurses, cleaners, porters, care assistants, students, people in suits, people in uniform, people in wheelchairs, people in scrubs. It stuck me that managing the logistics of a hospital must be bloody complex and seriously, who leaves school thinking they want to get into hospital management? Makes you think, doesn't it?

Anyway, enough philosophy for the day, back to Friday evening

  • I think when you are in this situation, you tend to look at things differently. I do pray your seroma will pass..its so hard  easy for them to say this and that but they aren't having to put up with it all??? I feel for you.

Have you got full movement back off operation yet?

Know that I am routing for you to get back some normality!

I have rung up 111 to get some advice on sore throat and when mentioned the C word, they suddenly treat you like you're an alien..and suddenly need to escalate your call...I am waiting for call but feel sleepy after taking some lemsip. Sigh!

  • Your Fireworks photo is beautiful. I mistook it for a mammogram image at first though and thought that person must be very sick.....These things are really fascinating, but at the same time horrible.I couldn't quite get over what horrors there can be after the op, as they never tell you...... but it does get better, day by day, week by week. Plod plod plod through to the sunny uplands.

  • We went to a fab fireworks display on Thursday at a local country house, all set to music and a nice evening out.  Completely agree, no one tells you what happens after the treatment, but we'll all get there, one way or another x
