Life in 3 week cycles

Chemo No3 today and I feel like a pro. I had chemo at home today, and as it is a relatively boring 6 hours of sitting still, I logged onto a 4 hour zoom call at work to pass the time. I think the chemo nurse was a bit bemused!

It's remarkably easy to know what to expect and I've quickly learnt how to manage things proactively. But life is now a series of 3 week cycles.

I know for the next couple of days all will be ok.  Then I expect a rough day or two with nausea, but am going to start anti sickness meds tonight to try and prevent this.   The heartburn tablets also get increased to,prevent this, that was really bad in cycle 1 but controlled last time.

Days 6-14 are when I need to be a bit more careful about my immune system being low, and it's where I need to never be too far from the loo (sorry, too much information Grinning) and my taste will be a bit off so bland food is required, but I can work and exercise quite normally.

Days 14-21 are really quite back to normal, taste is back, wine is back and energy levels are good. And then it starts again!

A great blog. I always struggle with sentence structure, grammar and spelling, but apart from that it my blogs, mostly end up as a letter to myself.

Well, case in point there. I hit the return key to go to the next paragraph and it completed my blog prematurely!

I did it again Pensive! So I also have been on the three week cycle, and you'll not be surprised to hear a slightly bit more hap hazardly.

Phew, I unticked the "Enter to Comment" box Wink

I'm in fairly good "touch" with my body, I listen to it, and it's had an awful lot to say other the last six months.

I'm not a spring chicken (brain can be) 63. I'm a guy, and have stg 4 term. sclc. Never smoked a cigarette in my life, oh, errrmmm, excluding the one I had when I was sixteen, and then immediately threw up. I definately recommend that as process to stop people from smoking at an early age.

I love my food and on Friday/Saturday looked forward to a nice glass of chardonnay. I've not had any wine or otherwise since my diagnosis, it made me nauseous Nauseated face

Anyway, just a bit of a blog back. Oh, I knew I was going to say something! I worked occasionally in Ireland, it was the South though mostly. All the people were lovely, but I just couldn't take to the Guinness, sorry! I'm wine and light beer person, bit of a sap lol.

I've now stopped my chemo so hopefully, soon, as they said in "Thunderbirds" all systems will be go, and I will be able to enjoy a little wine again and a meal out, once the restrictions lift.

I'm sorry for the long ramble, but I just wanted to say I really enjoyed your blog and understand what you said about the three week cycle.Bicyclist

Take care and wish you well for your bigger journey.Thumbsup

    Snicker (as in the choc)

  • Omg...Trust me when I say we are like twins! Seriously even before I read your blog I said to my Onco...let's try 2 treatments at the centre and if all goes OK...3rd bout can be treatment at home then onwards!! So pleased you have come to session 3 and have now sus out a rhythm, I was hoping to really note my cycles as I am such a believer in "body patterns" or whatever u call it! My fear is also heartburn so will ask doctor about this and be proactive...how did you tackle the stomach cramps, are they like period pains?

Your blog is so useful. So balanced with the good and the bad. I will stop here and get some sleep...just noticed that my sleep pattern is 6 hour stretches. And my eyes just automatically open! Bah lol
